Kayleigh and Chuck’s engagement photos at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum were absolutely breathtaking! Filled with winding garden paths, bright blooms, and peaceful wooded trails. Every turn offered new, stunning backdrops that made each moment unique. This stunning garden is one of Minnesota’s best places for natural, timeless engagement photos.
As a Minnesota engagement photographer, I love helping couples plan their Arboretum sessions. With over 1,200 acres of gardens and trails, it’s one of the best locations in the state for timeless, natural photos. From cozy, candid shots under the trees to grand, romantic portraits in the rose garden, the Arboretum has it all.

About the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is one of the most breathtaking locations in the West Metro for engagement photos. Located in Chaska, MN, it offers more than 1,200 acres of lush gardens, wooded trails, open fields, and wildflower prairies.
Every season brings something different – blooming tulips and magnolias in the spring, vibrant roses and hydrangeas in summer, and stunning golden tones in the fall. There are also quiet forest paths, charming bridges, peaceful ponds, and wide open lawns.
The Arboretum is part of the University of Minnesota and is open to the public year-round. You’ll need to purchase an entry pass and arrange a photography permit in advance for professional sessions.

Tips for Engagement Photos at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
- Check seasonal blooms: Visit their bloom calendar online to plan around your favorite flowers.
- Schedule golden hour: The light right before sunset brings a dreamy glow to your photos.
- Weekdays are best: The Arboretum can be busy on weekends. Weekdays offer more privacy and flexibility.
- Bring walking shoes: There’s a lot of ground to cover! Comfy shoes make a big difference.
- Secure your permit early: You’ll need to request a photography permit in advance through the Arboretum’s website HERE.
- Dress with nature in mind: Earth tones, soft pastels, and flowy fabrics look beautiful in this setting.
- Watch the weather: There’s little shade cover in open garden areas. Bright sun or rain can change your plan fast.
